Majette picks up Mayor Shirley Franklin endorsement -- I do like Franklin

An earlier post entitled the pot calling the kettle black quoted the ajc as saying Oxford was expected to pick up the endorsement by Mayor Franklin. This ajc article by Ben Smith has been updated, confirming that this did occur on 8-7-04 as expected.

Mr. Smith notes that Franklin's support could be critical for Majette, who needs metro Atlanta's turnout to exceed rural Georgia's. Fulton, DeKalb and Clayton counties provide nearly half the black vote in Georgia.

Mayor Franklin knows how to do things. In endorsing Majette, she said: "There haven't been many women to serve in the United States Senate. There haven't been many women to run for the United States Senate. If you don't run, you can't win. If you don't win, you can't serve."

As I have stated on this blog, playing the gender card is reality and good politics. Playing the race card is divisive. Thanks Mayor.
