Stranger than fiction -- Judge “resigns” to end hostage standoff; gunman surrenders

Cliff Oxford of Cobb County, Georgia, surrendered to authorities Wednesday afternoon in Jacksonville shortly after Judge Sharon Tanner resigned her office on live television to end a hostage standoff.

Oxford, reportedly unhappy with the outcome of a domestic violence case, took an attorney hostage and threatened to set off a bomb unless the judge in the case resigned. His demands were met – or so it was made to seem.

Authorities said Duval County Judge Sharon Tanner had found Oxford guilty of domestic abuse in 1999, sentencing him to one day in jail and fining him $216.

Oxford surrendered shortly after the judge pretended to resign on live television Wednesday, said John Bowen, chief of homeland security for the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. The attorney, Christopher Hazelip, was freed unharmed.

"I had a woman judge who discriminated against me," Oxford said when he surrendered to authorities. For the full story, see today’s GDP.

August 6 fools day, but tell the truth now; you believed it. Why did you believe it? You know, and he knows.

Go to the link and you will see that this is a true story except that the gunman was a nut by the name of John Knight rather than Cliff Oxford. Had this post used the name of any other primary candidate from either party, or any sitting or former U.S. Senator, you would not have believed it. That says something friends. It is a message.

Dirty ball, Sid. But I must admit I'm laughing my ass off.
