Update on campaign coffers of three potential candidates for the Nov. '06 general election for governor.

In a 12-28-04 post discussing Cathy Cox jumping into the 2006 race for governor, I wrote:

"As we all know, Taylor is off to the early lead in the money race. He has a strong track record as a fund-raiser, something I have written about before on this blog. It truly is a machine, headed up by one very accomplished and talented person."

That was confirmed in a 01-12-05 ajc article noting the reported campaign finances of the following three potential candidates for the Nov. 2006 general election (and I didn't say primary elections):

Taylor raised $740,000 toward his gubernatorial run during the second half of 2004, according to his latest campaign disclosure report. He took in nearly $1.9 million total since filing paperwork to raise money last April, and his campaign had $1.7 million left on hand at the end of the year.

Perdue took in $283,000 during the period after spending most of that time helping other Republican candidates raise money. Still, Perdue's coffers had $3.1 million by the end of the year.

Cox recently registered a campaign committee to run for governor, but she listed no contributions through the end of 2004.

This should be the last report on campaign finances until the General Assembly adjourns since state law does not allow fund-raising while the legislature is in session.
