Did I call it right or did I call it right. "New interest making DNC race interesting." And a female candidate to boot!! Will C. Cox approve?

In my 12-14-04 post I noted:

"There will be some further observation from the press about what this portends for the candidates for the post. It is more than just about Roemer becoming interested. It is indeed a positive development. Do you recall the post about the dearth of candidates?

"Maybe some others will now step forward, whether on their own or at the urging of others (and you can't tell the former from the latter, despite what they say). First, it shows there is more interest in our Party than many would have us believe. And second, it shows further evidence of a desire at the national level to stop Dean."

Today the Associated Press reports Molly Beth Malcolm, the former head of the Texas Democratic Party, today said she is weighing whether to enter the race for chairman of the Democratic National Committee.

Malcolm is the first woman to consider the job to succeed Terry McAuliffe, who plans to step down next year. Nearly 450 DNC members will vote in February on the high-profile job that carries even more political importance with Republicans controlling the White House and Congress.

A petition to draft Malcolm was circulated last weekend at a meeting of state Democratic Party chairs in Florida. Former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk, a potential candidate for the DNC job, noted during the session the lack of women candidates for the post.

In a telephone interview, Malcolm said the petition drive surprised her but added that the party has been losing ground with women and needs to put them "in a substantive role, not just a speaker's role."

Among the potential DNC candidates are former presidential candidate Howard Dean, defeated Rep. Martin Frost of Texas, former Clinton adviser Harold Ickes and party activist Donnie Fowler. Former Indiana Rep. Tim Roemer said Tuesday that he is considering whether to join the race.
Malcolm, a Republican-turned-Democrat, served as the party's Texas chairwoman from 1998 to 2003.

But will Cathy Cox approve? Does a cat have climbing gear?

The Big Guy has been quiet, real quiet. And all the while things seem to be breaking Cathy Cox's way. But to put things in perspective, we are not even into the warmup phase yet, much less the 1st inning.

Regardless, perceptions are being formed, not ones cast in stone, but being formed nonetheless, and for this stage, there sure is a lot of talk and speculation.
