A friend in need is a friend indeed -- Our proud fellow Democrats in Waycross, Ware County, Georgia
The Waycross Journal-Herald reports that more and more local Democrats are showing up at the weekly meetings being led by Ware County Commissioner Carlos Nelson in the main courtroom at the courthouse.
Plans are being made for a South Georgia Democratic booth at the Oct. 12-16 Okefenokee Fair, also a hot dog fund-raiser and possibly a raffle for a rifle or a four-wheeler.
Nelson will be making available red, white and blue "I Am A Proud Democrat" yard signs as his donation to the local Democratic cause.
The purpose of the 6 p.m. Thursday meetings is to stir up interest in the Nov. 2 general election and to support local, state and national candidates who are running as Democrats.
Roy McGregor, well-known local retired railroad employee, summed up what it means to be a Democrat.
"People have forgotten that it is the Democrats who have given us REA (rural electrification), Social Security, the GI Bill education benefits, and all the other programs that help working people," he said. His statement received spontaneous warm applause.
Stock Coleman represents the Democratic Party of Georgia as Ware County Democratic chairman.
J. Baker McGee, [attorney and] well-known former chairman of Ware County Democrats, was present Thursday. He recalled that Ware County voters have traditionally supported Democratic candidates for many years.
It is hoped that a local Democratic Committee can eventually be elected and remain functioning between elections.
_______________
On 9-10-04 I did a post in which Jim Wooten is quoted as saying that such and such is evidence of how close the Democratic Party is to imploding outside the Perimeter. If this is imploding, we need more of it.
And you other Party locals out there, lets make a note and do all we can to help our brethern (and sisters) in Ware. Stock Coleman and Baker McGee are two good reasons I Am A Proud Democrat. Thanks Commissioner Nelson.
