As the world turns -- Cloak-and-dagger in the world of presidential politics: You heard it first on The Georgia Gang and first read about it here
In the 8-31-04 post entitled "Sen. Kerry, the Olympics bring to mind the Greek Tragedies and the word catharsis -- And we Americans are a forgiving people" that suggested to the Senator that he suck it up, eat some humble pie and apologize to America's Vietnam veterans, we also went down memory lane a bit for some as we talked about Walt Kelly and Pogo's famous line "We have met the enemy . . . and he is us."
Well, the timing couldn't have been better, nor the line more appropriate, if we substitute only one of Pogo's words "us" with the word "within."
We all remember Dick Morris, right. He was one of President Clinton's advisors for some 20 or so years, and then reappeared on the scene when, as I remember things, the Monica Lewinsky thing was about to topple the Clinton presidency and the White House was in a circle the wagons mode.
As I recall events, Mr. Morris was invited to the White House and after spending the evening conferring with Dick Morris, an energized and aggressive Mr. Clinton emerged the next morning and said: "I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky."
Well, we know things have not been the best with the Clintons and Dick Morris since such time, and you should keep this in mind as you read on.
I digress to confess to my audience that I recognize my complete lack objectivity when it comes to taking the Dean at face value. If he says it -- as you can tell and my family will confirm -- I might as well have read it in the Good Book or the Wall Street Journal. It is true and you can take it the bank.
Well, even with my naive level of trust and confidence in the Dean, I admit to thinking he was getting a bit into left field when he said the Kerry camp had been infiltrated with one or more Bush spies. And then we learn today that it has; Shipp is on target again.
Damn, man, I don't know how you do it, day after day, week after week, year after year. I will never doubt you again Sir.
Although not identified, the presence of spies in the Kerry camp was first made public by Bill Shipp on The Georgia Gang on August 29, 2004, and was duly reported on this blog on such date and again in the 9-5-04 post.
In The Hill today Dick Morris pulls no punches. He names names with respect to the identifies of the spies in the Kerry campaign camp.
Not who you would have thought of, but I would assume things never are in the world of cloak-and-dagger. The spies -- James Carville and Paul Begala.
Mr. Morris breaks the identity of the spies in a piece entitled: "Clintonistas move in for the kill — of Kerry" in which he writes:
Kerry has reached out to a set of advisers who do not . . . support his candidacy.
Generally speaking, it is a good idea in politics to hire only advisers who want you to win.
Carville and Begala . . . are rooting for Bush. What better place to do so than from within the Kerry headquarters?
[O]ne wonders if Clinton has not sent his operatives forth knowing full well that their best and most earnest advice will be bad and will make Kerry’s defeat, and Hillary’s ultimate candidacy, more likely.
