Say what? Whose's running for Lt. Gov. in 2006? Let's get 2004 out of the way first -- No time like the present for Gold Dome issues
The 9-7-04 PI reports that Brother Herman Cain, who enjoyed rock-star treatment at several behind-the-scenes gatherings at the RNC, discussed the 2006 race for lieutenant governor with ajc's Jim Tharpe.
"They've talked to me about that while I've been up here this week, and it's on the table. But I haven't made any decisions about anything at this point. I'll probably be deciding something in about two months," Cain said.
Recognizing that this is not "new" news, by my count this makes the third possibility mentioned for this Republican slot: Sen. Tommie Williams and Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine being the other two.
But hey, lets not forget the Demo's here. Conventional thinking has the Big Guy and Cathy with a "C" Cox going for the top of the ticket.
Although normally there would be no hurry, given the possibility that Cain may enter the fray in about two months, it is not too early for the powers that be to begin working on this number two spot, if they have not already. And here's to wishing the Party more motivation and better luck than it had in coming up with candidates for the U.S. Senate race.
As an aside, just because I did not mention the top of the ticket for the GOP does not mean Sonny Perdue is a slam dunk. Talk about his replacement began some time back, and it may gain momentum or fizzle out as time goes on.
If it gains momentum, a strong possibility for his replacement -- Rep. Jack Kingston.
