For our non-Catholic, non-male, heterosexual readers -- The IUD Makes a Comeback
The 8-3 wsj reports that the IUD is making a huge comeback. Many doctors suggest that part of the IUD resurgence is also due to the arrival of a younger generation of physicians. Many older physicians have biases against IUDs because of the Dalkon Shield.
A lot of people say "This is not your mother's IUD' because it's changed so much since the 1970s."
Doctors are suggesting the Mirena -- advertised in parenting magazines as "birth control for moms" -- to monogamous women who are looking for no-hassle, long-term birth control; some women who are considering sterilization opt for the IUD as a less-permanent solution.
