Bring it on!! (or we have plenty of room in our Party for you deep-pocket guys)
July 29, 2004 Wall Street Journal headline: "Cash MachineDemocrats Tap a Rich Lode:Young, Well-Off Social Liberals; They Include Internet TycoonsAnd Some Who've SouredOn Bush Administration"
The article notes that more upper-income Americans are voting Democratic in Presidential elections, and this "trend corresponds with a decline in Republican voter support from the wealthiest fifth of Americans -- The party's presidential candidate drew 69% in 1984, 51% in 1996 and 53% in 2000, according to the book 'Vital Statistics in American Politics.'"
"This year, a potent alignment of forces has set off a new gusher of money for Democrats. Anger at President Bush and some of his policies has aroused some wealthy Americans who in the past were politically ambivalent. Mr. Bush -- by stoking his party's religious-right base on issues like gay marriage, stem-cell research and abortion -- has pushed toward the Democrats some well-heeled people who share a more Republican aversion to high taxes and regulation."
