What does Sen. Johnson on the state level have in common with former Sen. Miller on the national level?
Senate President Pro Tem Eric Johnson, R-Savannah, at the state GOP convention assumed the role of former Senator Zell Miller at the national GOP convention. How so? The following comes from the 5-8-05 Savannah Morning News:
"Let me remind you that our enemies are still out there," Johnson said. 'The other side [wants to] come back and turn the clock back."
He said Democrats favor "junk lawsuits," higher gasoline taxes, "abortion on demand even for 12-year olds," and coddling illegal immigrants, whose "votes [they want] in future elections."
Defending GOP legislation requiring voters to have photo I.D., Johnson said Democrats want "your arrest warrant" and documentation of "your sex-change operation" to suffice.
"Democrats telling us how to run the government is like Michael Jackson telling us how to raise our children," he said.
