Calling all Democrats! Calling all Democrats! Are you thinking of running for office in the future? - The Red Clay Democrats Want You (on April 9)!!

In mid-September 2004 the Red Clay Democrats of Cobb County conducted the inaugural training session of the Georgia Democratic Candidate Training Project ("DCTP").

This successful project has quickly become -- front and center, hands down -- one of the most successful projects ever undertaken by Democrats.

Our hats are off to the Red Clay Democrats for having the foresight and willingness to devote their time and energy to one of the most crucial challenges facing Georgia Democrats -- not only fielding candidates in future races, but fielding candidates knowledgeable and prepared to hit the campaign trail running.

By attending sessions where potential candidates are able to hear from (1) office holders who have been there and done that and (2) professional campaign consultants and pollsters and other experts, such candidates are able to avoid the many pitfalls that would otherwise trip up and even lead to failure, even when the candidates are qualified and have a message that should assure their election.

The name of program of the initial 2004 session said it all: "What some campaigns do wrong, and how you can do it right."

How many of us have talked with an unsuccessful candidate whom many assumed would win, only to hear such comments: If only I had done this or that; I learned what I didn't do or what I did wrong, and next time I won't make the same mistake; etc.

Well, the Red Clay Democrats are at it again, having this week announced that the Second Annual Red Clay Institute Democratic Candidate Training Project will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2005, 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Atlanta. The event is free, and lunch will be provided.

Featured presenters will include, among others, House Minority Leader DuBose Porter, Washington D.C. pollster Mike Bocian, direct mail consultant Jon Anderson, a campaign fundraising director, a recent first-time candidate, and other local and state elected officials and party leaders and officials.

Having attended the initial class, I can assure you that this session is worth every second of your time if you want to run a winning campaign for office in Georgia. And it matters not whether you are planning on running for Lt. Gov., for the state House or Senate, or for an office on the local level, such as county commissioner or school board.

You will hear hard hitting presentations from professionals and elected office-holders on such campaign subjects as: effective fundraising strategies, retaining and utilizing polling consultants, retaining and utilizing mail and media consultants, hiring and directing campaign staff and setting a campaign budget, message development and media relations, and grassroots efforts and volunteer coordination.

And that's just the cake. The icing is the opportunity to meet all of these presenters in an informal setting and to network with other prospects from around the state.

Interested? Great. Contact Michelle Adams today at michelle.adams@kutakrock.com. Space is limited; admittance is by application only; and early application is encouraged. The application deadline is March 21.

(Posts concerning the first training session include a 1-28-05 post and a 8-19-04 post.)
