Rev. Herman Cain: "Democrats are ideologically bankrupt." - A messenger we can't kill.
In my recent response to Bill Shipp entitled in part "When the Dean speaks, the Democratic Party better listen," I noted:
"Mr. Shipp, you suggest in your recent column that our Party will be best served if we get our agenda in tune with the rest of the state of Georgia and the nation.
"Dean, please know that this is what we are about; at least it is our intent, and what we know we must do. You may call it our agenda; we consider it our working on and refining of our message."
What the Dean was telling us, and if we refuse to listen and heed his advice we risk going the way of the dodo bird, is that our Party must find a message that will resonate with the average voter.
Being a moderate Democrat myself, it sometimes truly amazes me when I hear and read other Democrats lash out at Bill Shipp with regard to what I consider more of his usual invaluable advice and insight. Aren't we sometimes just killing the messenger?
Regardless, the following is a message from someone it will do us no good to kill, for he is not asking us for anything, at least not for our vote anytime soon for something such as Lt. Gov. of Georgia. The messenger is Brother Herman Cain, and his message:
"Democrats are losing loyal voters, but the Republicans aren't picking them up. Democrats are ideologically bankrupt. Republicans have a major brand-identity problem."
(The 01-06-05 PI reporting that Herman Cain will not be running for Lt. Gov. on the GOP ticket in 2006.)

"Democrats are ideologically bankrupt. Republicans have a major brand-identity problem."That's such a strange remark from Cain because I think the exact opposite is true. Republicans have no problem with brand identity (identified by the civil obstructionist* wing), but has a major ideology problem trying to keep both fiscal conservatives and civil obstructionists happy. Democrats KNOW what their ideology is (using government as an instrument to protect everyone's rights and civil liberties), they just have no idea how to market those values (brand identity).
* Civil Obstructionists is my new word for the group formerly known as "social conservatives." See this post for the thought process behind the new nomenclature.
