Pass the salt & pepper please. I may need to be eating some crow. - Screaming Dean gets unexpected endorsement of Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.).

Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) is actively lobbying DNC delegates to select Dean as the next DNC Chair. The endorsement of the leading antiwar presidential candidate by one of the Democrats’ most prominent early supporters of the Iraq invasion signals a rehabilitation of Dean’s image in the House and greatly increases his prospects of leading the party, many Democratic lawmakers and aides are saying.

This is truly an interesting development. I still cannot believe this hawk has come out for Dean in the first place, but also, how strong he has come out for him. We don't expect but sure love it when politicians talk straight, and such language as the follows sure sounds like straight talk:

“I am not with him on all the issues, but he understands the party’s problems, what we need to do and how to get there,” said Murtha. “And he has executive experience. . . . A lot of people in the party don’t understand just where we are. We need a change. We need something different.”

Although many others are also shocked with this development, it no doubt will result in some taking a harder look at Dean.

Of course as has been fairly well publicized, some in Georgia will get a chance to do just this as Dean will be attending a regional DNC meeting in Atlanta this weekend, the first of four such events.

As we approach Atlanta this weekend, I want to refer you back to a 12-15-04 post that had as its subject an article written by Dave Steele about his friend the former Rep. Tim Roemer.

David Steele lives in Savannah, is very active with the Chatham County Democrats, and I am proud to be able to call him a friend. In the linked post is an article about Dave's friend the former Rep. Tim Roemer, taken from www.ChathamDems.com (this is one of the best Democratic Web sites in Georgia, and Dave Steele keeps this Web site up, going, and always fresh).

House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is informally pushing former Rep. Tim Roemer (D-Ind.), who is not yet a formal candidate.

According to Steele, "I have rarely seen a public official at any level who engendered the level of trust and affection that activists in those communities had for Tim. That loyalty spoke volumes to me of what he represented and what he achieved as a public servant."

Steele reports that "Roemer represented a very conservative-leaning district that bordered Michigan to the north and stretched almost to Chicago in the west. He routinely faced tough competition in the general election but left Congress voluntarily without being defeated on a ballot."

Other names were discussed in yesterday's post.

Hey Joan. Are you going to the Mayor's reception Saturday? If so, you know what I'll be looking for. And as far as the wing, it won't happen. So we just eat some chicken fingers or whatever Democrats are supposed to eat. Republicans eat caviar, right?

The good Lord willing, they are the ones who are going to have eat pie, as in humble pie, if we can just keep working as hard between now and Nov. 2006.

Come give me that hug.
