I like reading about important people I know. Sen. David Adelman on streetcars easing traffic and helping business.
One of our own, and a participant in Saturday's DPG Executive Committee meeting, state Sen. David Adelman has a good piece in today's ajc advocating bringing back the streetcars to Atlanta. (Sen. Adelman's district includes parts of DeKalb and some of Atlanta.)
Growing up I was always fascinated by streetcars, and was pleased to see the possibility of their return brought up for study a couple of years ago.
A caption in this guest column notes that "[s]treetcars ran along Peachtree and Forsyth streets near the end of World War II but vanished later in the 1940s. Transportation proposals may lead to the streetcars' return, downtown and elsewhere."
This date of the demise of the streetcar in Atlanta has to be wrong. I sure remember them, and I am going to guess the story meant "vanished later in the 1950s." (??)

Sid,
You could be wrong. They say memory is the second thing to go. Heh Hee hee...
Adelman as a dark horse candidate for state chair. Any thoughts?
I like Adelman. He's passionate, articulate, and seems like a consensus builder...
