Faith-based prison dormitories in Georgia, Part II.

I did a 8-23-04 post that I needs to be updated. That post was entitled "I am reluctant to ask Mr. Warden, but it might be a factor you understand -- Is the dorm air conditioned? -- Faith-based prison dormitories in Georgia."

That post linked us to a Macon Telegraph article about one of the newest initiatives of Georgia's new prison chief Commissioner James Donald.

Inspired by President Bush's call for more faith-based involvement in the work of government, the dormitory is supposed to allow prisoners to work on their own faith and character while developing skills to help them turn their lives around and make it in the outside world.

Yesterday in Macon the Gov. and Commissioner discussed the program with correction officers, and provides an update.

According to a 10-20-04 Macon Telegraph article:

Six of the 41 state prisons have religious dormitories of inmates with good behavior . . . . The dormitories hold services, Bible studies and other faith-related activities. He said in the next year all state prisons will have the program, which partners with local religious groups.
