Dear GOP: Be careful of what you ask Sen. Daschle for. You might get it. As the drunk on the Titanic said, I asked for ice, but . . .

Despite Republicans' occasional calls for greater bipartisanship, some think Senate Minority Leader Thomas A. Daschle of South Dakota has gone way overboard in his latest TV campaign ad.

The 60-second spot shows Daschle and President Bush embracing on the House floor the day Bush addressed Congress after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

Russ Spencer, Jay Bookman and Charles Richardson might agree this is going way overboard. Then again, they might call it crossing the line, something I know about.

Daschle's opponent former Rep. John Thune (R-S.D.), who was recruited by the White House to challenge Daschle, calls the ad "complete hypocrisy" and "a farcical ploy," and said the ad shows that Daschle’s campaign is in trouble. “In order to win South Dakota, he has to win Republican votes,” Thune added. “To me, the ad was pandering.” President Bush carried the state by a wide margin in 2000.

Russ Spencer (Fox5) , Jay Bookman (ajc) and Charles Richardson (the Macon Telegraph) might agree this is going way overboard. Then again, they might call it crossing the line, something I know about.

Regardless of what it does, one must wonder. Does Daschle have no pride?
