My, my . . . Experience out, gut feeling in.

The Macon Telegraph, in endorsing what it describes as "anti-establishment candidate" Dale Cardwell for the U.S. Senate in the Democratic primary, writes:

[W]hile [Jim Martin's] name recognition and experience may lead him to the nomination, we have to go with our gut feeling and try a different path.

My own impressions have not changed since I did the following post on 1-3-08:

I met Dale Cardwell on August 4, 2007, at the State Committee Meeting that was held in conjunction with the Georgia Association of Democratic County Chairs (GADCC) annual dinner to award the Richard B. Russell Public Service Award.

I requested to be removed from his e-mail list on December 31, 2007, when he informed the recipients of his mailings that he would be spending his time 320 feet in the air on the Corey Tower until further notice.

Sid, I could not agree more What you could not see was the positioning of the op-ed on the page above the endorsement for Marshall=where the editorial board applied the exact opposite, and correct, standard. All I can say is that the endorsement headline should've read:

"Macon Telegraph Shows Loves for Saxby: Endorses Sacrificial Lamb."

Democrats have one candidate who has extensive legislative experience, military service, statewide name recognition and impeccable character. But, the Telegraph wants us to support the guy who sat on the pole in winter. Really a shocking decision on the part of that editorial board. Of, course, they made the same mistake about Martin in 2006. They first endorsed Greg in the primary and then switched and endorsed Martin in the run-off.
