Bush's speech assailing ‘appeasement’ not only breached protocol in a big way by playing partisan politics overseas, but most surely will backfire.

From The New York Times:

President Bush used a speech to the Israeli Parliament on Thursday to liken those who would negotiate with “terrorists and radicals” to appeasers of the Nazis — a remark widely interpreted as a rebuke to Senator Barack Obama, who has advocated greater engagement with countries like Iran and Syria.

The episode placed Mr. Bush squarely in one of the most divisive debates of the campaign to succeed him, as Republicans try to portray Mr. Obama as weak in the fight against terrorism. It also underscored what the White House has said will be an aggressive effort by Mr. Bush to use his presidential platform to influence the presidential election.

Thursday was not the first time the term “appeasement” has cropped up in the Bush administration lexicon. In 2006, in advance of the midterm elections, Vice President Dick Cheney and then-Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld invoked the analogy as a line of attack against critics of the war in Iraq. Then, as now, it was controversial.

The terrorist monkey can not be negotiated with. The only reason to talk to Ahmadamadmonkey in say maybe Switzerland is to provoke him by debating his ideology and criticizing the hatred. Force him to say lots of stupid and insane things which would be widely publicized thus educating more people to his ideology's insanity. This, I am quite sure, Obama would never do.

Ouch, Obama and the poor little Dems were hit a little too close to home by what GW said. It's one of the best things Bush has ever said. Bravo! And he didn't even have to mention the Dhimmicrats or any body's name.

So sure, then he folded in Saudi Arabia, but what he said in Israel almost makes that OK.

This is ridiculous. Hamas isn't trying to support Obama any more than bin Laden was trying to support Kerry with his 2004 "October surprise." They and other terrorists are perfectly happy with our current policy as it has allowed them to expand their influence across the middle east. Why on earth do we take their comments at face value?

I have more details at Gawksquawk

McCain of all people should know the difference between talking to someone and appeasing them. Unlike Bush and Obama, he was actually alive when Chamberlain appeased Hitler in 1938.
