Some recent history.

NPR columnist Ken Rudin in The Political Junkie reminds us that in 1994 "the policies of President Bill Clinton were giving Republicans hope of something they had not accomplished since 1952 — winning a majority in the House." And win they did. "Republicans netted 52 seats and won a majority in the House they held for 12 years."
