Not good; very much "not good." Remember Muskie: Clinton chokes up speaking to supporters

Click this AJC link to view this video from the AJC. Below the video is the caption "Sen. Hillary Clinton was near tears during a campaign stop in New Hampshire where a new poll shows Clinton is trailing front-runner Barack Obama by a wide margin."

When I saw the headline I immediately thought of Sen. Edmund Muskie who in 1972 appeared to cry as he fumed against a New Hampshire newspaper that had attacked his wife.

As recounted in The New York Times article on his death:

While running in the 1972 New Hampshire presidential primary, Mr. Muskie, then a senator, denounced the conservative Union Leader newspaper of Manchester for reprinting an uncomplimentary Newsweek editorial that said his wife liked to tell dirty jokes and smoke cigarettes.

Mr. Muskie choked up several times during the speech, and several news organizations reported that he cried, but a dispute has persisted for years whether it was tears on his face or melted snowflakes.

His presidential campaign never recovered, and Senator George McGovern went on to win the nomination and lose the general election to President Richard M. Nixon.
