Publisher's prerogative is rarely invoked on this blog. - The headline will read: "Eight Screen Movie Theater Planned for Douglas."

What about dinner and a movie? What about dinner and a choice of eight movies? (And I don't mean a trip to Burger King followed by a visit to a video store.)

Contracts have been signed and plans are moving forward for the development of an eight screen cinema in Douglas.

A local announcement from Luke Morgan, President of the Douglas-Coffee County Economic Development Authority, provides in part:

"The Economic Development Authority traditionally has been known for a single focus, attracting big box industries. While this is still a concentrated effort by EDA, the changing economic climate has created a need for EDA to look strong at hard and all areas of industry growth. Much like Governor Perdue and the state economic development office, Morgan and EDA members took a hard look at state and national growth segments. Tourism, being Georgia’s second leading industry, was a strategic industry consideration by the local group and the state."

Exciting news for Georgia? No way. Exciting news for the Other Georgia? You bet.
