Rep. Chuck Sims, Part VIII. -- Go check that Wal-Mart Republican's casket out.
If you are getting tired of the Rep. Chuck Sims posts, then quit egging me on with your emails to tell it all Brother, tell it all.
And I did tell the Chair of the First Congressional District that I would quit, that I agreed enough was enough, but I just couldn't help myself after seeing a story about Chuck in our weekend local papers.
But first, another short story, and please realize that story telling is not my forte. Rather in my family this belongs to my brother Jim who is Dean of Students at our local institution of higher learning, South Georgia College here in Douglas.
The mama and her son sat for an hour or so at the daddy's funeral, listening to the preacher go on and on about how great the man was and what an exemplary life he had lived.
Finally after having heard about all she could bear and being in disbelief at what she was hearing, the mother leaned over and whispered to her son, "Son, go look in that casket box and see who's in there besides your Pa that the preacher man is talking about."
_______________
Today our local papers had two headlines of interest: One with national relevance reads: "Douglas National Guard To Go to Iraq." (The last "call up" of the 48th Brigade was in 2001 for peace-keeping efforts in Bosnia; and the one before that for the Gulf War.)
The other headline: "Sim Discusses Party Switch At Press Conference."
The article under the latter headline reads in part: "The representative said that he had always been an advocate for healthcare, the poor, the needy, the elderly and children. 'That won't change,' said Sims. 'We need to make sure we don't disenfranchise these people, but to do that, we need a voice. In a minority party, the issues affecting these groups will not come to light.'"
(11-14-04 edition of The Douglas Enterprise; 11-12-04 edition of the Coffee County News.)

Hey son, go up there and look in the casket and make sure which party Rep. Sims says he is switching to. It shore don't sound like the Republican Party to me.
And wouldn't you just know it -- the press conference was held at Sims Funeral Home.
