Truth in Reporting -- And a handy source in the computer age

-- A news service's headline this morning is entitled: "Majette holds off late charge by Oxford"

The article, while declaring Majette a winner, noted:

With 90 percent of the precincts counted, the first-term congresswoman led the statewide contest by 15,000 votes.

Unofficial returns showed Majette had 54 percent of the statewide vote, or 100,788 votes, to Oxford's 46 percent, or 85,177.

-- I understand that with a baseball game still going on, one cannot report the final score when a press deadline must be met.

But when the above results appeared on Cathy Cox's returns, the Secretary of State's website also showed two significant counties had not reported: Fulton and Clarke. In light of this, I can't understand the late charge by Oxford aspect of the headline. The only late charge was 54 rising to 60 and 46 falling to 40.

Um Gee Sid - with all your malevolent hate mongering against Mr. Oxford - I would have thought your pious Christian heart would be gloating by now? Perhaps you are celebrating his loss with his bitter, angry and lonely first wife.

Speaking of ex wives, I saw Cliff's second ex wife (the scissor-wielding one) dropping off her kids at school. I think this whole campaign has taken a BIG toll on her. You need to spend a minute talking to her about the campaign, and I think you'll get an idea that things aren't what they appear. This woman scares me (if you read the divorce papers, she scares him too). I also heard she never put up an Oxford yard sign during the whole campaign. Odd for a person who was supporting the man she had accused of beating her in sworn testimony. It was a total farce, but most people realized that.

Speaking of school, if Cliff was such a big believer in public education, why do they put their kids in private school at Woodward?

It's no wonder this guy embarrassed himeself out there.

Do any of you anonymous posters actually know either of the former Mrs. Oxford's? You appear to have intimate knowledge from both of them. #1 used Mr. Cottingham to do her vindictive dirty work and #2 remained completely faceless despite "publically" supporting her husband? What a shame that a political forum has turned into a tabloid and pedestrian medium for people with no lives to gossip. The race is over - who really cares about all of these people anyway? They are yesterday's news.

I agree with the previous poster that you can't blame either ex-wife for Cliff Oxford's ineptitude. I do not know either ex wife well, but my children know Cliff’s children, and I regularly speak to ex-wife #2 in her grey Honda Odyssey when she comes to school.

The focus isn’t on the ex-wives. Cliff lost this by himself, and he lost to someone who did not run a single TV ad during the runoff. When you look at how much he outspent her, you quickly realize that people had him figured out.

Does anyone out there know the real reason Chip Carter left Cliff’s campaign to go volunteer for Denise’s? That didn’t get much press, but I’d love to know the real story.

Why don't you call Chip Carter and ask him yourself? He will be happy to tell you.
