Obama's disconnect with America will make him a one-termer: First Republican to occupy New York's 9th District in nearly a century to replace Weiner.

From The Wall Street Journal:

As the Republican victory in Tuesday's special election to replace former Rep. Anthony Weiner reverberated nationally, the upset had a jarring impact closer to home.

In New York, particularly in the city where labor and machine politics have long been resistant to national political tides, few Democrats envisioned such an outcome when earlier this summer Gov. Andrew Cuomo set the election date. That decision, it was assumed, would be hammered out by the will of the Queens Democratic machine, not contested in the ballot box.

But that was before a sleepy race got sucked into the vortex of a national drama over the economy, foreign policy and the direction of the country. And out of it emerged the first Republican to occupy New York's Ninth District in nearly a century, Bob Turner, a retried cable-television executive, who defeated state Assemblyman David Weprin by about six percentage points.
