A sign of things to come? - (1) Rep. Tom DeLay & (2) Ohio GOP Senator to be challenged?

For the last week or so an ad sponsored by Public Campaign Action Fund appears on the home page of Roll Call. The ad has a photo of Tom DeLay with the captions: "Abused Power;" "Violated Ethics;" "Demand His Resignation."
_______________

Senate Democrats are stepping up their efforts to convince Rep. Ted Strickland (D-Ohio) to challenge Sen. Mike DeWine (R) in 2006, believing that the Ohio Republican is increasingly vulnerable back home.

It is not surprising that DeLay is being challenged. Although mid-decade redistricting usually shifts the Congressional delegation, voters tend to seek revenge on the ring-leaders behind the new lines. Pearl Black wrote several commentaries for GeorgiaReporter.com showing that in Colorado the Republicans lost control of both legislative chambers after redistricting. Polls indicate that same may happen in Texas, taking down the governor and DeLay as well. She is working on analysis of Georgia. The reason is simple: if "all politics is local" then voters want legislators to pay attention to their concerns instead of spending tax money on blatant political moves, usually ones that result in huge legal fees charged to the state when new district lines are challenged in court.
