A second October 2004 poll shows Cox ahead of Taylor in 2006 matchup against Gov. Perdue.

A 10-19-04 post entitled "Read 'em and weep. And we're not talking about a poker hand here, but a new ajc poll. -- Perdue vulnerable, very vulnerable to Democratic challengers," we reviewed the results of a Zogby* poll.

In the Zogby poll, Perdue led Taylor 44 percent to 41 percent and was tied with Cox at 41 percent each.

(This poll was conducted during the week of October 11 by Zogby for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and WSB-TV.)

In a more recent poll done by InsiderAdvantage/Marketing Workshop (read Matt Towery), Perdue led Taylor 46 percent to 36 percent and he led Cox 44 percent to Cox's 38 percent.

(This poll was conducted during the period October 28-29 for Morris News Service and other outlets.)

The Morris News write up of the poll that I saw did not give Gov. Perdue's approval rating, only noting that the poll shows "more than half" of those questioned approve of Gov. Perdue's his job performance, and that "Mr. Perdue's approval and disapproval scores are comparable to Mr. Bush's 57 percent approval and 39 percent disapproval in the same poll."

Mr. Towery had it pretty close showing a 57 percent approval for Mr. Bush, with Mr. Bush getting 58 percent of the Georgia vote to Sen. John Kerry's 41 percent, and Mr. Isakson carried the day with 58 percent to Democratic Rep. Denise Majette's 40 percent.

P.S. Yes, this is the now famous Zogby, as in Zogby International, the pofessional pollster that spent Nov. 3 wiping egg from its face and offering mea culpas.

You recall that John Zogby called the election for Kerry at 5 p.m. before polls closed on Election Day, announcing on his Web site that the Demo- cratic nominee would win 311 electoral votes, and leaving the pollster with his tail between his legs.
