18 mos. Judge? Make it 18 X 180 mos. or until he decides to testify. This is not unfair; it is what he agreed to do. -- Toccoa girl killed in J'ville.
A key witness for the prosecutor refused to testify against Juan Curtis this morning in the murder retrial in the 2000 slaying of a Georgia tourist in Jacksonville.
Curtis, 26, is charged with first-degree murder in the robbery and killing of Mary Ann Stephens of Toccoa. He faces a mandatory life sentence if convicted.
Jermel Williams, who prosecutors say drove the getaway car, refused to testify even after the judge said he would hold him in contempt and add 18 months to his sentence.
Williams had pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 10 years in prison after agreeing to implicate Curtis.
A fingerprint in Stephens' purse matched Curtis.
