Another boxing match possible in Georgia, and we're not talking about the Presidential race -- Tuition hikes forthcoming?
In an earlier post today I said I sort of like the old days better. For many this reflects a realism that perhaps they also were born just a generation or so late.
Well, I may be getting my wish come true in wanting to witness things are they were in the old days, but in this case, it will be more than a generation ago. I think we may be seeing some real duels as back in the old, old days of Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr.
Between Senator Miller and "he deserved being put in his place" Chris Matthews you are supposed to think?
No, these could involve two duels, the first between Lt. Gov. Mark Taylor and/or Gov. Sonny Perdue -- to be determined by lot or draw -- versus University System Chancellor Thomas Meredith. The second, if won by the Chancellor, to be between the winner of the draw between the Lt. Gov. and the Gov.
We learn today that despite about as strong as language as you are going to get from politicians for themselves and the legislative, Georgia public colleges and universities might still see an increase in tuition, possibly as soon as January, despite dissent from state lawmakers.
The thinking -- if you won't give it to us directly by appropriation, we will get most of it from you indirectly anyway from HOPE.
The Board of Regents, of course, must approve any tuition increase.
I assume since Gov. Perdue never stepped up to the plate in the Dr. Michael Adams versus Board of Regents fight, it might not be accurate to call this round two of a match between the Board of Regents and the State of Georgia.
But regardless of who wins such latest round, surely they know there is such a thing as winning the battle and losing the war. Stay tuned; this is going to be interesting and regardless of the winner, there will be no winner.
